INTRODUCTION TO BALLET

Music & Motion  (ages 4 to 6)
A playful, imaginative introduction to the elements of dance.  Imaginative exercises, songs and movement games are used to explore concepts of space, time, rhythm and a wide variety of movement skills appropriate for the age group.  Leads into the ballet curriculum.  One class per week  (1 hour).

Preparation for Ballet  (ages 5 to 7)



















     



ELEMENTARY DIVISION

Ballet 1 and 2  (ages 6 to 9) (placement by audition)
Full ballet classes including barre and center work.  Proper alignment and careful, efficient use of the body are emphasized. One class per week (1 hour).


             CHILDREN'S DIVISION

Ballet A, B, and C (placement by audition)
Graded classes consist of complete barre, center work, allegro and adagio combinations.  Continued emphasis on proper body alignment and turn-out.  A minimum of two ballet classes per week is required for all students who wish to build the strength necessary for pointe work.  Two 1 to 1 1/2 hour classes per week.
An additional class in Introduction to Modern Dance and/or Introduction to Jazz/Tap are recommended at this level.

 



 













INTERMEDIATE AND ADVANCED DIVISION

Level D (placement by audition)
Complete ballet technique class with full barre and center work including turns, adagio, allegro and traveling combinations.  Continued emphasis on alignment, turn-out and strength building.  This class is a pre-pointe and beginner pointe class.  Students are individually evaluated before starting pointe.  A minimum of three technique classes per week are required for all Level D students.  Additional ballet classes are recommended at this level as well as Modern 2.  1 1/2 and 2 hour classes.

Intermediate Ballet (placement by audition)
Complete ballet technique class, including pointe work.  A minimum of three technique classes per week are required.  The Modern 2 class is also recommended at this level.  1 1/2 and 2 hour classes.

  INTENSIVE RELEASE TIME DIVISION

Intensive Release Time I and II  (placement by audition)
A program for the most serious advanced and pre-professional students.  The program offers daily ballet technique classes (Monday through Saturday), repertory, stretch, pilates, modern dance, jazz/tap, and Master Classes.  Students may attend any and all Dance Centre classes.  (unlimited hours).

                       ADDITIONAL CLASSES

Basic Ballet (older beginners)
For the older beginning ballet students or those who have studied dance in the past and wish to return.  Class pace is determined by the composition of the group.
One class per week.  (1 1/4 hour).

Introduction to Modern (ages 8 and up)
A creative dance class for the Level A & up student who wishes to explore dance outside the basic classical technique.  These classes increase body awareness, coordination and style, while building strength and flexibility.  Classes introduce the students to basic modern and jazz technique.  One class per week  (1 hour).

Modern 2
Further exploration of the various styles of modern dance for Level D and Intermediate Ballet dancers.  Pre-requisite -- Introduction to Modern.  One class per week  (1 1/2 hour).

Modern 3 (placement by instructor)
An intermediate level class for Pre-Release, Release Time I students and others with comparable modern dance background.  Pre-requisite -- Modern 2.
One class per week  (1 1/4 hour).

Advanced Modern (placement by instructor)
An Advanced level class for Release Time II students and others with strong modern dance background.
Pre-requisite -- Modern 3 class or equivalent experience.
One class per week  (1 1/4 hour).

Introduction Jazz/Tap
Increases body awareness, coordination and style while building strength, flexibility and endurance through lively jazz or tap combinations.  Appropriate for Level A  and up.  One class per week (1 1/2 hour).

Pre-Release and Release Time I Jazz/Tap
Increases body awareness, coordination and style while building strength, flexibility and endurance through lively and challenging jazz combinations. 
One class per week (1 1/2 hour).

Advanced Jazz/Tap
An advanced level jazz class for Release Time II and others with comparable jazz background. 
One class per week (1 1/2 hour).

Pilates
One class per week  (1 hour).
